Meridius: Architecture

In a typical mail relay configuration, both the primary and secondary relays are placed in the corporate Demilitarized Zone (DMZ). In the illustration below (Scenario 1), the Meridius 1000 Email Security Gateway™ is accessible via the Internet and facilitates mail transfers while the internal corporate email servers remain protected. Meridius guards the internal mail servers from nuisance spam and also improves their mail performance. The Meridius “Zero Administration Quarantine” feature ensures spam doesn’t reach the internal mail servers thus eliminating the need to process and deliver spam to end-users.

In the scenario illustrated here, a medium-sized office uses a single Meridius 1000 Email Security Gateway™ to protect the local mail server and ensure it's safe and efficient operation. Meridius is able to perform many tasks that would normally be handled by the mail server, allowing it to operate to its full potential without having to deal with heavy spam traffic and other various threats.
