F-Secure And BlueCat Networks Debut Anti-Virus for Linux Onto Appliances

BlueCat Networks Security Appliance to Feature Embedded Virus Detection Engine Based on Award Winning F-Secure Anti Virus Technology
San Jose, Calif. and Richmond Hill, Ont., August 17, 2004 — F-Secure® Corporation (HEX: FSC), a worldwide leader in antivirus and security software, announced today that BlueCat Networks, Inc. has licensed F-Secure Anti-Virus for Linux to embed into their Meridius Security Gateway™ appliance.
“Our relationship with BlueCat Networks is another milestone in our recently announced channel strategy, and strengthens our expanding presence in the North American market,” notes Travis Witteveen, vice president of F-Secure’s North American operations. “Customers throughout Europe have come to depend upon F-Secure technology as their best defense against viruses. Now, BlueCat Networks’ customers have the ability to leverage our award-winning antivirus technology integrated with their innovative Meridius Security Gateway appliance.”
The Meridius Security Gateway, a 1U rack mountable appliance powered by a hardened Linux® kernel, is a simple, secure and affordable solution for organizations bothered by both spam and viruses. With its Recurrent Pattern Detection engine that identifies spam patterns in real time, and its new virus detection engine that scans incoming email for viruses including password protected Zip files, the Meridius Security Gateway appliance returns email to the useful tool it was intended to be and saves administrators valuable time.
With an average of 8 to 10 new viruses discovered daily, BlueCat Networks’ customers benefit from the research efforts of the F-Secure Anti-Virus Research Labs in Helsinki. Around the clock, F-Secure personnel monitor the Internet for new and unknown threats and maintain a database of virus definitions. With the F-Secure Anti-Virus feature enabled, the Meridius Security Gateway appliance receives automatic virus definition updates from F-Secure, which has earned it a reputation for being the first vendor to detect and respond to new threats.
“Meridius customers are protected from spam and viruses by multiple scanning engines, and benefit from the knowledge and resources of an international team of experts who are at the forefront of virus outbreaks,” said Michael Hyatt, president of BlueCat Networks, Inc. “The Meridius Security Gateway appliance offers real time value and protection for the dollar.”
